The commemorative coin is dedicated to the first mintage of Kyiv Rus coins, i.e. zlatnyky and sriblianyky, at the end of 10th- early 11th centuries during the rule of the Kyiv Prince Volodymyr the Great.
On the obverse there are: the Small National Emblem of Ukraine and the semicircular legend НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine) (above), composition of the coins: zlatnyk (local gilding, gold weight in fineness – 0.0004 g) and sriblianyky
On the reverse there is depicted a scene of mintage and the inscription ТИСЯЧОЛІТТЯ/МОНЕТНОГО КАРБУВАННЯ/У КИЄВІ (Millennium/ of coin mintage / in Kyiv).
